Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy, through inserting fine needles on specific points to regulate the flow of Qi and blood in the human body to achieve the purpose of treating and preventing diseases. Acupuncture is widely used in the clinical practice of TCM and has also been recognized and applied in some western countries.

The therapeutic principles of acupuncture and moxibustion are based on the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, which believes that the health of the human body is closely related to the balanced flow of Qi and blood. By stimulating specific acupuncture points, the flow of qi and blood can be regulated, as well as the balance of yin and yang within the body. This stimulation can produce therapeutic effects by altering signalling in the nervous system, affecting fluid circulation, and activating the body's ability to heal itself.

The effects of acupuncture vary with individual differences and specific diseases, but many studies and clinical practice have shown that acupuncture can produce positive results in the following ways:

  • Pain relief: Acupuncture is commonly used for pain management, including chronic pain, musculoskeletal pain, and neuropathic pain. It can relieve pain by stimulating nerve endings and releasing endogenous analgesic substances such as endorphins and enkephalins.
  • Inflammation and Immunomodulation: Acupuncture has a regulatory effect on the inflammatory response and the immune system, helping to improve immune function and anti-inflammatory response, especially in chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Neuromodulation: Acupuncture can affect the regulation of the nervous system, including the autonomic nervous system and central nervous system. It can balance the function of sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves, regulate heart rate, blood pressure and digestive function, etc.
  • Mental and Emotional Regulation: Acupuncture can have positive effects in the management of mental and emotional problems. It can promote the release of endorphins, improve mental state, reduce anxiety, depression, and stress, etc.
  • Adjunctive Therapy: Acupuncture can be used as an adjunctive treatment in combination with other medical treatments, such as chemotherapy and recovery after surgery, to help reduce side effects and promote recovery.

The effect of acupuncture varies from individual to individual, and some people may experience significant improvement from acupuncture, while others may experience minor effects. In addition, as a comprehensive therapy, acupuncture usually requires multiple courses and continuous treatment to achieve the best effect.

The specific method of acupuncture treatment needs to be carried out by professionally trained acupuncturists, who will select appropriate acupoints and acupuncture techniques according to the specific conditions of the patients. Acupuncture is a relatively safe treatment, but it still needs to be done under the supervision of a trained professional.
